Backed up by 60 years of experience, Lafuma has been able to be a part of these major changes in society’s thinking. With conviction, the company has devoted itself to making environmental impact and sustainable development an essential part of its identity. Factory structure, production processes, and partnerships have all been considered with an eye to protecting nature and preserving product quality.
SUPPLY
OFFERING MORE WITH LESS
For more than 20 years, Lafuma has been committed to a new way of producing “more with less”: less raw materials, lower energy consumption, more versatility, greater robustness and more technicality. By integrating recycled wood fibre, natural resin, and hemp into its products, the brand has also made the choice to promote recycling.
LOCAL IS BETTER
Enhancing the value of local companies’ knowledge and reducing transportation as much as possible are priorities for Lafuma. The thread for fabric is therefore made in Switzerland and woven in Isère (France); plastic parts are manufactured in the Ain department (France) and steel, in Italy.
"ECO-FRIENDLY" PACKAGING
The company only uses recycled cardboard for effective protection of its furniture. This compact, optimized packaging helps with transportation of the Relax line, chairs, armchairs, tables etc.
PRODUCTION
ECO-DESIGN
Products are designed so as to limit their impact on the environment throughout the lifetime of the product, following a multi-criteria approach (impact on the air, water, energy consumption, use of non-renewable resources etc.) And to do this they must adhere very strictly to the three D rule: they have to remain desirable, differentiated and durable products!
EMPHASISE DURABILITY
Lafuma is part of the fight against programmed obsolescence and the disposable culture. The brand therefore offers several interchangeable parts (replacement fabrics, hooks, elastic laces etc.) to allow its products to last for the maximum amount of time.
"ECOLOGICAL" DISTRIBUTION
To reduce its carbon footprint, Lafuma favours soft methods of transportation such as river barges and road freight transported by rail. It has strict selection criteria for logistics partners according to their own "sustainable development"
RECYCLING
CHOOSE ITEMS THAT CAN BE TAKEN APART
The products in the “furniture” range can mostly be taken apart (screws and nuts, clips, removable fabrics etc.) A choice which allows for separation of the various parts and sorting of components for better recycling. Protecting the environment comes naturally to Lafuma.
PROMOTING RECYCLING
Lafuma has established a cycle of recovery and reuse for its machines and materials. In 1954, the company designed its first furniture with the same materials and machines as its backpacks. Today it aims to improve processes, and methods and to recycle industrial tools in a real sense of innovation and optimization.
